Chief Joseph’s unwavering gaze carries the strength of a leader, the wisdom of experience, and the quiet dignity of a man who fought to protect his people, their homeland, and their way of life. Rather than simply painting a likeness, my goal was to capture the spirit that still resonates through history.

Loose, expressive brushwork allows the portrait to breathe, while layers of light and atmosphere bring warmth, depth, and emotion into the painting. Every brushstroke is intentionally left visible, reminding the viewer that the work is not just an image—it is a living interpretation of character, memory, and resilience.

I believe a portrait becomes meaningful when it goes beyond physical resemblance. It should invite you to pause, meet the subject’s eyes, and feel their presence. That connection is what I strive to create in every painting.
